In September we kicked off the year our with annual membership cocktail party at Ciro’s in Hauppauge. Our guest of honor was Elena Langan, the new Dean of Students Touro at Law School.
The Suffolk County Women’s Bar Association & The Suffolk County Judicial Committee on Women in the Courts partnered to coordinate four programs for Domestic Violence Month Awareness in October 2019.These programs focused on the impact domestic violence has on the lives of survivors and the resources available. The topics included a case study, family offenses vs. criminal complaints, beyond what you think is domestic violence and assessing and treating children affected by domestic violence.
The SCWBA Breast Cancer Awareness Month Breakfast was held on October 15, 2019 at the Suffolk County Bar Association. The guest speaker was Dr, Joyce T. Au, a Breast Surgeon at Northwell Health Cancer Institute at Hunting Breast Surgery Associates. Dr. Au spoke on topics including Genetic Testing and Risk Assessment.
On November 2, 2019 the Suffolk County, Nassau County, and Queens County Women’s Bar Associations held our annual networking at the wineries. We even had a few members from Staten Island and Brooklyn! The first stop was Ospreys’ Dominion Vineyards, then lunch and wine at Jason’s Vineyard. Next was a trip to Long Island Vodka with a final stop at Bruno’s Farm Stand.
Leslie H. Tayne, Esq. taught our members how to bring in more business and grow the business they have on November 19, 2019. Ms. Tayne is the author of Life and Debt.
The Suffolk County Women’s Bar Association held an interactive class at Exo’tiques on how to de-stress the chaos of everyday life on December 19, 2019.
Strategies to Maximize Retirement was the topic of the presentation held on February 4, 2020. This was sponsored by New York Life.

This year’s Installation Dinner and Judiciary Night has been postponed and will be held in conjunction with our Annual SCWBA Membership Cocktail Party on September 22, 2020 at The Watermill in Smithtown.

Congratulations to Maria Dosso on her retirement from Nassau Suffolk Law Services after more than 30 years of service. Maria recently received an award for her leadership in pro bono programs.

We have also been having terrific Networking Luncheons every month at the Irish Coffee Pub in Central Islip. Our Co-Chairs Lisa Pomerantz and Pam Greene worked very hard to give us great topics and speakers, and the programs were very well attended.
Congratulations to Linda Morrone, past president of the SCWBA, on her retirement. A party was held in Linda’s honor on January 30, 2020 at the Hotel Indigo, East End in Riverhead. All who attended had a great time. Best wishes to Linda in her future endeavors.
