We recently lost Barbara, a long time supporter of our organization, and a dear friend to many of us. In recognition of Barbara’s dedication and support of the Suffolk County Women’s Bar, a one-time scholarship in her name will be presented to Lauren Gallo, a third-year law student at Touro Law Center, who graduated in May 2015. Ms. Gallo is a worthy recipient of this honor, sharing the same passion and commitment to women’s rights as did Barbara.
Ms. Gallo served as the President of the Student Women’s Bar Association during the 2014-2015 academic year. Lauren, along with her e-board, organized great events for the students this year, such as the Women’s Bar Association Domestic Violence and Human Trafficking event held on October 14, 2014. The event brought together a variety of panelists from government, public service agencies, attorneys and faculty. It featured a keynote address by Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice. In addition, Lauren organized fundraisers and donated to the American Cancer Society and V-Day. She is also currently planning a Human Trafficking presentation, “Human Trafficking: A Look from the Inside,” and book signing with Rachel Lloyd, Executive Director of Girls Educational and Mentoring Services, who will speak firsthand about her experiences in “The Life” as a victim, survivor and now-advocate on behalf of commercially sexually exploited women. Congratulations Lauren!
